About the Knox Library Storytime Program
1110 Merchant Drive, Knoxville, TN 37912
The Knox County Public Library offers more than one million books, periodicals, compact discs, films, and audiobooks through its 19 different locations across Knox County in Tennessee. This is the oldest continuously operating public library system in the state of Tennessee, with a proud heritage of serving the local communities. Visiting the library is an excellent option for many families, giving their children access to a wide variety of books, events, and services that help teach them about the local community and the world as a whole. Children can enjoy browsing through books, playing on the computer, experiencing new activities, and even attending story time at their local library branch! Storetimes through the Knox Library system are great places to bond with your little one and connect with other parents. Above all, they expose your child to early literacy skills.

The Knox Library offers several different storytime options for families, depending on their children’s ages.
The Baby Bookworms story time meets on weekday mornings. This program aims for babies and toddlers up to age 2. Babies and their caregivers can enjoy singing, clapping, wiggling, and bouncing in this fun program. This is designed to be a “lap sit” program. So kids must always be accompanied by a parent or other guardian.
The Toddler story time meets on weekday mornings. This program is designed for young toddlers 2-3 years old. All children in this class must be accompanied by a parent.
The Preschool storytime meets on weekday mornings, and is a fun story time geared toward young children ages 3-5 years old. Preschoolers can enjoy listening to stories, participating in activities, and playing with other kids of similar ages.

Specialty
In addition to family story times, Knox County Libraries offer Storytimes To Go Kits. These bring local library resources into preschool classrooms in the area. Teachers can enhance thor instruction and provide more opportunities for kids to develop early literacy skills in a fun and exciting way. These kits give teachers access to new materials that they might not have in their classrooms. The Storytimes To Go Kits are specially designed for use by preschool educators and professional caregivers who work with children ages 3-5 years old.
Each Storytime To Go Kit includes a selection of books, music, puppets, puzzles, flannel boards, and other manipulatives for use in a preschool-style classroom. There is also a Teacher’s Manual that provides curriculum connections and a list of other library materials of interest. Each kit has a different theme!
