I hear it all the time, “looking for a newborn photographer who doesn’t break the bank”, “looking for a photographer who doesn’t charge an arm and leg”…FRIENDS…you get what you pay for!
So why is newborn photographer such an investment?
Newborn photography is a niche that requires skill, time, safety, and specialized gear:
Safety and Experience: It is so important that your photographer has lots of experience with holding and positioning newborns. Babies are fragile, and safety always comes first! A trained photographer will always be your safest options. A true professional newborn photographer will be certain to train and educate themselves on how to photograph your new baby in the safest way.
Time-Intensive Sessions: Newborn photography takes extra time and patience. You are on the baby’s clock and it take a lot more than just taking a photo.
Post-Processing: Post processing a newborn session take extra work. Babies often times have blemishes or flakes, and a professional newborn photographer takes extra time with making sure your pictures are edited to perfection.
Props and Studio Setup: Newborn photographer often times purchase additional props that ensure variety and safety for your newborn. Wraps, bows, bonnets…having a big collection of these items gives clients a chance to better personalize their session.
Limited Window: Newborn photos are best taken within the first 10 days of life, so scheduling and flexibility are crucial—photographers often hold tentative slots around due dates.
Insurance and Hygiene: Many newborn photographers invest in liability insurance and follow strict hygiene protocols, especially in post-COVID times.
So it goes with out saying “you get what you pay for”. It’s a once and a life photoshoot. It likely will be the photos you will cherish THE MOST for the rest of your life. Do yourself the favor, invest in your newborn photos.
