When Should You Book Newborn Photos in Knoxville, TN?
If you’re expecting a baby, you may be wondering when to book newborn photos. Between appointments, baby gear,
and getting everything ready at home, scheduling a photography session can feel like one more thing to figure out.
The good news? You don’t need to know exactly when your baby will arrive to start planning.
I’m Taryn, a Knoxville newborn photographer with a home studio in Farragut, Tennessee. I’ve photographed more
than 2,500 newborns, and I know how quickly those first tiny details change. Here’s how to plan for photos you’ll love
looking back on.
Book while you’re pregnant, if you can
Reaching out before your baby arrives gives us time to talk about the kind of portraits you want and plan for a spot on
my calendar. Your due date is a starting point; once your baby is here, we can work out the session date.
If your baby has already arrived and you haven’t booked, please reach out anyway. I’m always happy to let you know
what availability I have.
What happens during a studio newborn session?
Newborns set their own pace. They may need to eat, be changed, or have a little time to settle, and that’s all part of
the experience. My Farragut studio is a comfortable place to pause when your baby needs something and then keep
going when they’re ready.
I love creating portraits that show just how small your baby is right now: the tiny fingers, soft cheeks, and expressions
you’ll recognize for years. If you’d like photos with parents or siblings, we can talk about those while planning your
session, too.
Should you book maternity photos at the same time?
You can! Maternity and newborn photos tell two different parts of your family’s story. Maternity portraits capture the
anticipation before you meet your baby. Newborn portraits show the first days after they arrive.
I photograph maternity sessions as well as newborns, babies, and families, so we can talk through what you’d like to
document without trying to decide everything at once.
Your baby’s first year doesn’t stop at newborn photos
One of my favorite things is seeing a newborn return to the studio with a brand-new smile or a growing personality.
Milestone sessions at around 3, 6, and 9 months, followed by first birthday photos, give you a way to remember how
much changes in just one year.
Whether you’re planning one newborn session or photos throughout your baby’s first year, I’d love to help you make
a plan that fits your family.
